Best UK Campsites with a view

Three Cliffs Bay, Gower Peninsula

Here are some of my favourite campsites with a view in the UK.

Wild camping in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is technically illegal with the exception of some Parks. But for the most part you can wild camp in Scotland. Here are some spots you can nearly wild camp in the UK.

Three Cliffs Bay, Gower Peninsula, Wales

Two fields of campsites with stunning views over a tidal bay. Dinner can be ordered from a nightly food truck and fire-pit rental is available. Bookings for following year open in August. Book early for a sea view but beware that most seaview sites sit on a hill. Many families stay for a week of summer holiday.

Grange Farm, Isle of Wight

Grange Farm, Brighstone Bay, Isle of Wight

Overlooking the channel, Grange Farm has a couple fields you can book, but the pitches are first come, first serve. If you have a small tent, you can usually find a sea view space. There are some pigs, llamas, a warn playground and a road down to the pebbly beach.

Eagle Point Camping, Berea Peninsula, Ireland

Small site with an area to pitch tents near the water first come, first serve.

Southdown Way Caravan and Camping Park, Hassocks, West Sussex

The field is in a dark sky area where we like to watch the Perseids Meteor Shower because it’s relatively close to London and accessible by public transport. The site is basic, but has view of the Downs and some nice walks. Bring your own coffee.

Wild ponies amongst the tents at Hollands Woods, Brockenhurst

Hollands Woods Campsite Brockenhurst, New Forrest

Situated within 22 acres of oak forest and on the edge of a meadow, this site lets you wake-up and mingle with the wild ponies. The ponies don’t seem to trample the tents at night, which was a concern. Nice forest walks and accessible from Brockenhurst train station. Bring your own coffee.

John O’Groats Caravan and Camping Site, John O’Groats, Scotland

This site is perched at the most northern corner of the British mainland and a victory point for hikers and bikers completing their Lands End to John O’Groats trip. Views of Orkney Islands and Island of Stroma with ferry access. Puffin and seal spotting. Incredibly strong headwinds for final cycle of a 1000km trip.
