Expectation setting for family adventures

Introduce the vision for this trip and how it might be different than other family holidays. Adventure means the unexpected. So what does it mean to embrace the unexpected?

  • Have everyone name something they are concerned about. What are we going to do when things go wrong?

  • Discuss the pros and cons of being in nature.

  • Talk about your families dream senecio. Have everyone discuss one goal the trip.

  • Having open discussions about everyone’s hopes and fears for the trip allows time to connect and a chance to note concerns to be mindful of when on the trip. It’s healthy for the children to see that their parents have concerns but can also be excited about going and having fun.

 Activities

  • Let everyone draw and colour their concerns, goals and dream scenario for the trip and share.

  • Make a list of games that you want to play as a family on the trip.

  • Make a list of food or drink everyone wants to have while on the trip.

  • Look up some books or poems local to the area that you can read before or during the trip.
